House Church Clarksville
House church
A house church is not a smaller version of a service. It is the church — the people — meeting where a family can actually be together. We gather Sundays at 11 a.m., in the park and in the home.
The word in the New Testament is ekklesia. It means an assembly. It is the people, not a building and not a weekly program. When Paul writes “the church that is in their house,” he means the brothers and sisters who meet there.
Where they met
They were not hiding. The house was simply the natural place for a family of God to be together.
Likewise greet the church that is in their house.
The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.
Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house.
And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house.
A few plain answers
Is it a real church?
Yes. The church is the people who belong to Jesus and come together to build one another up. Strengths and questions takes up the worries people usually bring next.
Who leads?
Jesus is the head. We do not gather around one person’s sermon. Leaders help the others teach, pray, and, in time, open another gathering.
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
More of that work is on Disciple making.
Why the park and a home?
Public meetings at RichEllen Park are so a neighbor can meet us without an invitation. Gatherings in a home are invite-only, for safety, and so people can be known. Plan your visit tells you how to come.
The children, the meal, and prayer
The children stay in the room with us. The Lord’s Supper is a real meal. We pray for one another by name. Each of those has its own page: What a gathering is like, the Lord’s Supper, and prayer.
Sundays at 11 a.m.
Park on the first and third Sundays. Home the other Sundays.
